"We went on a blustery autumn day with clouds gathering. The only visitors, except for some self-absorbed sheep, it was not difficult to imagine the township built on the summit inside the safety of the grass-covered levees. Very atmospheric and a commanding view over the countryside." -- John H.
"Very good site, it should remain as it is..." -- Robert R.
"As a schoolboy in Dawlish our headmaster took us to the castle as part of our history lessons; He made it so easy to be "a fly on the wall" that I have taken both sets of grandchildren to the castle and tried to present it the way he did. Thoroughly recommended as a "living lesson", followed by a trip to Dorchester museum to see the actual artifacts..." -- David W.
"Maiden Castle is one of the most beautiful and inspiring places I have ever visited in the world! Personally I think it has more atmosphere and spiritual depth than Stonehenge. Spiritually I find it charges my batteries every time I visit it, which I try to do as often as I can! Highly recommended." -- Ferenc
"Maiden Castle is a fantastic place to visit. My parents used to take me there as a child and it never ceased to amaze me... even then! I will always remember the stunning views from the top (as well as the lovely pub at the bottom!)" -- Georgina D.
"I think your information you have is wonderful!" -- Bridget M.
"I haven't visited Maiden Castle but at school we are learning about the Middle Ages and how Maiden Castle was there when the Durtoriges took over and some thousands of years later some architects found some skeletons there that were of two warriors who had fought in a war between the neighbouring tribe." -- Saalihah A.
"Stunning, not to be missed. The sheer size of the castle cannot be experienced by photos... has to be seen. How did they live, where was their source of water, all these thoughts come to mind when walking around the giant summit." -- Beverly S.
"On the way back from Dartmoor to West Sussex, I visited Maiden Castle. I was amazed at how big and imposing it is and how difficult it must have been to overpower it. I live very close to Cissbury Ring - the second largest Iron Age Hill Fort in Britain, a very impressive position high on the South Downs but quite a bit smaller and less complex, however it does have the added interest of having been a flint mining complex in the Neolithic age. I now feel inspired to visit some more of the larger hill forts of Britain." -- Kirk D.
"I remember visiting Maiden Castle many years ago with my late grandmother. It is certainly worth a visit, and has an atomosphere all of its own. On a misty windy day, you can just picture how it must have been for the inhabitants of this hill fort, and how hard life must have been for them. And when you have been there, what you come away with is a real sense of history and wonder at how the people who lived there lived out thier lives. My grandmother was very very fond of the place, and it was one of her favourite places to visit. She had a love of such places as this, and other ancient sites and monuments such as Stonhendge, Badbury rings, not to mention other historical places such as Corfe Castle and others. But Maiden Castle was most definately her favourite. She loved the atmosphere there and the fact that it was a lovely place to walk. Her two favouite things combined - a Historical site of great importance and mystery and walking. She would tell us children of how the people lived, and how they woul have defended their home, and used to get us to shut our eyes and try to imagine how it would have been in its heyday. I will always remember our trips there and would recommend it to anyone." -- S.B.
"It is a very interesting site to visit. The many times I visited, I got something new out of it each time." -- Luke P.
"I visited Maiden Castle a few years ago in the company of a visitor from Australia. We visited it on a beautiful day in August. It is extremely impressive and it is very signposted. I have recommended a visit to many people. Do pick a fine day for your visit though." -- Geoffrey A.
"Wow this is truly enourmous. Very easy to get to and a simple, easy car park. A short climb takes you up to wow of a view and a definite chill on a fresh breezy day. The kids enjoyed it. Just a great, simple morning out in the very fresh air." -- The Victors
"Maiden Castle is wicked but it is very steep when you are climbing up hills!" -- Megan
"It's intresting to see over the years how it is still looking good..." -- Laura M.
"We had such fun at Maiden Castle in August, 1998. My husband, young son and I were on holiday when we stopped in the parking lot to look at the iron age hill fort. As we were about to leave we noticed a man dressed as a Roman soldier with a group of people around him and realized he was gathering people to go on a night tour to the top of the hill fort. We made a steep climb over three ramparts before reaching the grassy plain at top. There we gathered at the remains of the ancient Roman temple while sitting on its foundation to hear the guide explain the history of the hill fort. As we listened an enormous blood red full moon rose in the sky. What a sight! What an experience!" -- Pam
"A great place to visit." -- Darren H.
